The audience appears to like Christian just fine. Seems to impugn that suspiciously negative Internet chatter in the first week, doesn’t it?

i think prima donna stockard did him in. she & mantello are buddies. only room for 1 star on this show.
Keri | Dec 30, 2008 | Reply
In the show I attended, Stockard and Matthew came out arm in arm - in this video, Christian and Stockard couldn’t get farther apart…interesting.
Also, very few people stood when they came out - not like what appears to be a nice standing O in this clip…even more interesting.
I’m with you, YuriMike.

“The Stockard” is a big, big star. I’ve been a fan forever. She doesnt have to resort to ‘greasing tap shoes’ to keep her star-dom. It looks like Hoff just wasnt up to the task in the dance dept. GET OVER IT!!
Bill | Dec 30, 2008 | Reply
CIL, I actually saw Christian Hoff perform the Joey role in one of his last previews, and I can tell you he looked great as he danced very demanding choreography, even though he has never held himself out to be in the league of Gene Kelly. No one has accused Stockard of “greasing his tap shoes” or anything like that.
But this whole episode is very fishy, and I agree with Keri about the implications of the curtain call body language. I believe that Joe Mantello and Roundabout owe Christian’s many admirers an honest explanation. Instead, we receive questionable hearsay through that gossip-monger Michael Riedel.
I could take exception with your claim that “The Stockard” is a big, big star, but why bother? Indulge your fan fantasies to your heart’s content.

I just got the joke. GREASE tap shoes — Stockard played Rizzo in the movie of “Grease.” Well done!

Quick! What’s Stockard’s Bacon Number?
ANSWER: 2.
She was in Must Love Dogs with Julie Gonzalo. Julie Gonzalo was in Saving Angelo with Kevin Bacon.
Question: Why did I chose that particular game?
Because Stockard was in the play and film of Six Degrees of Separation. The Kevin Bacon game is based on Six Degrees of Separation.

This is hard– What is Stockard’s Christian Hoff number?
ANSWER: 2 again.
Stockard was in Six Degrees of Separation with Richard Masur. Richard Masur was in Encino Man with Christian Hoff.

Ron, you are veering way, way off topic. You clearly have far too much time on your hands. You must be on Winter break.
You may get into trouble with webmaster Catherine over this.

So should I just stick to greasy tap shoes then, Mr Hall Monitor Bill?

hey ron, i was going to say you pickd the bacon game because bacon has a lot of grease. i think mine is better.

They took the video down from YouTube because of a “copyright claim” from Actors Equity. I’m sure prima donna Stockard was behind that. As if Equity cares a flip about what is on YouTube, especially a one-minute video showing a curtain call, for heaven’s sake.
I think it demonstrates that there’s really something to the speculation in previous comments.

Cil - agree with you. I’ve been a fan sice I first saw her onstage, and then thank GOd for the archives.

By the way-
AEA does indeed “care a flip”- more than “a flip.”
from Backstage article -( larger excerpt and url below):
1. Rule 69 in Equity’s Production Contract, which states, “There shall be no televising, visual and/or sound recording, motion picture filming, or videotaping, in whole or in part…without the express permission of Equity.”
and
2. Spurred by requests from many Equity members, the union has shut down 1,000 online posts of illicitly taped plays, 95 percent of which were on YouTube, according to David Lotz, Equity’s director of communications. Ludwig said the problem has grown so large that the union now has a direct line to YouTube to demand, no questions asked, that content be removed. He added that YouTube has complied and takes down most illegal content within a half hour of Equity’s calls. Ludwig strongly encourages actors to send Equity links to pirated plays that appear on YouTube so the union can contact the site and have the videos removed.
My inserted comment:
1. Ludwig=AEA Principal Councillor Jimmy Ludwig
2. That would include all Equity contracts, not just the Prod. Contract. Roundabout is on a LORT contract.
3. I agree a curtain call is a smaller issue- but PR and mgmt have a vested financial interest, and do care. Therefore, AEA cares, has to, equally, if reported (esp.. by Mgmt or PR).
4. Add to that AEA has to respect its sister unions and associations- all the artists whose work appears (costumes? lights?) SSDC, etc.
Bill, I respectfully disagree with your assessment : I don’t believe that actor was the reason.
I was at the Dec. 11 performance, and a professional filming of the chorus call occurred.
(I was seated where I - could not miss it.)
So I imagine it is more likely that the PR firm for the show removed it. Or Gen Mgmt.
++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++
The supposition that this actor ( who barely has time to eat between shows) is googling youtube for curtain calls? It merits no response.
And that, Bill, was a civil response on my part. ( Really.)

In a continued attempt at being civil…. I forgot the url.

Thanks for the info, Ana. That really does make sense, I mean, we all know it’s illegal to film during a show, so why should it be okay to film AND post it on youtube?
JT | Feb 3, 2009 | Reply
Ana, you seem knowledgeable about Pal Joey. Does Matt Risch have an understudy? I don’t see one listed on ibdb. Thanks.
Ana | Feb 3, 2009 | Reply
Hi JT,
Yes as Seth Rudestky would say “I’m obsessed!” ( look his website up if you don’t know him- he is hysterical !! )
Lesseeee, well- I am going tonight ( yup- in a blizzard! fun!)– so if it changes will let you know.
I’ve been ill and the weather has sucked ( some things just keep getting worse this NYC winter!)
Here is what is in the playbill from? OK too lazy to search for the ticket- think mid Jan.
I looked at the first place that made sense ( since on a LORT they don’t have standbys just u/s- all the more impressive that risch new his track and joeys perfectly week 1 of previews !!!!) … and…
Risch was the “drummer and Joey Evans u/s)”
So- I looked for drummer- as of my last viewing ( mid Jan? ) it was: Eric Sciotto-
listed as: (Drummer, Ensemble,u/s Joey Evans)
If that changed ( I’d be shocked, why would he leave!)- I will repost since you’ll probably have it on my mind when I return
e.g. If tonight something changes , will repost.
But unless Eric is out tonight, I imagine it would be him and has been, and will continue to be - he took over Risch’s old track of the drummer etc. …
Once a “track” is set it is set ( or else the whole show would change, ya know?) …
So Eric Sciotto ( 7 Bway credits in bio, plus etc.) took over Matt Risch’s old track.
So if I make it thru blizzard seeing it tonight. Doubt anything will be different re: that track.
OK, so IF that changes ( I would be shocked) and ERIC is not in show ( again shocked)
I will post. If no post - it is still Eric. If I am really bored or obsessing about the show- I’ll confirm anyway.
Ana | Feb 3, 2009 | Reply
ps Liz- no problem, Thanks for a kind post!
( and JT also)
Really dreading that blizzard, But love the show.
Ana | Feb 4, 2009 | Reply
ps to JT yes is it indeed still Eric Sciotto as far as I can see. They were still giving out Jan playbills- but no insert, and Sciotto was there last night as the drummer. The show ( to my eye -imho) keeps growing ( including a new change I loved in the check scene) and was in fantastic shape last night.

Thanks, Ana.
There was a request for understudy comments in a post before. Please leave a comment if you’ve seen any of the understudies go on. I’m especially interested in Lisa Gajda.

Hi JT-
Just saw your comment. Since it is a limited run I plan on (health hopefully allowing) returning before it ends. So sure- if she goes on when I see it, I will post.
